广州新机场开始动工Guangzhou new airport starts construction
The preliminary construction works for the Pearl River Delta Hub (Guangzhou New) Airport in Gaoming, Foshan, commenced on December 25th. According to tender notices, the project scope encompasses the T1 terminal area, bridges, tunnel works, and reserved projects for the northern terminal area, with a total investment exceeding RMB 450 million. The anticipated completion date is set for September 30th, 2025.

The Pearl River Delta Hub (Guangzhou New) Airport is positioned as "one of the international aviation hubs in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, a crucial component of Guangzhou's international aviation hub, and a comprehensive transportation hub in the western part of the Greater Bay Area."
The near-term planning target is set for 2035 to accommodate an annual passenger throughput of 30 million and cargo throughput of 500,000 tonnes. For the long-term planning horizon in 2050, it is envisioned to handle an annual passenger throughput of 60 million to 80 million and cargo throughput of 2.2 million tonnes.
